Strict vegitarians, the Hodges devote their lives to the thing they love most--food and relaxation. Living together, they are used to being crowded by family yet sometimes get annoyed, wanting independance. A hodge is never in a real hurry unless threatened. Enjoying the rain and farming right above their holes, eating the vegtables from above, and the roots that pop out of their ceiling, below. They are usually considered "neutral" in wars, because they never had to fight about anything, feeling content with their own world, and unconcerned with the rest. Being buried underground, they don't get out much, and often depend on the Ingrim for reports and letters from the outside world. Leaving their community to start another happens alot, but since humans are taking up land, most have been confined to only a couple of well-known areas in English, Irish and Scottish countryside. Their accent depends on where they live, like any human. And their humour is anything but complicated, as it doesn't take a real joke to get them laughing. They would be considered "small town" folk.

The Hodges Homes

They hide in holes as many normal rabbits do, but their homes look more sophisticated. Where one Hodge lives, there are usually twenty more. There homes covor the Underground for miles and some are forced to build mounds because the Undergrounds are crowded. Humans sometimes come across Hodge-holes when building subways or basements for human housing. This makes the Hodge very weary of living near humans, for both spieces population is growing rapidly. However the Hodges usually live in large families, sometimes all in the same hole. When the birthing doe or buck (parents) die or leave, the eldest kit usually takes ownership of the house, whilst the posessions are destibuted to the rest of the family.

The Diet

Vegitarians by nature..fruits, veggies and anything that can grown from the ground, or be made from it (includes breads and wheat-stuff) Dairy doesn't carry well in their digestive system, so they don't eat it, and the same goes with chocolate. They drink water, ale, wine, champeine..anything made of fruits except for frozen things, because they haven't refridgerators or frozen machines. They love things made of alot of salt, and alot of sugar, and know not of "a little bit" when it comes to anything. They do not smoke pipes and things, their only addiction is who's the better cook, gardener, or eater.

Common Traditions

They trade their food for crafts made by Bards, like flutes made of bamboo/reeds, wire jewellery, and cloth. Bards are in constant trade with Hodges. Every spring, Hodges pick off all their undercoat they've grown through winter, and stuff it in a large satchel and place it under what's become known as The Fur Tree. The Tree protects the bags from rain, and they tie the bags to the trunk to withstand strong winds. Hodge-hair is what makes up most of the clothing the Lyzzies wear, and they trade many odds and ends to Bards, just to get an artical of clothing. So Hodges are very important to all Clans.

Hodges are very musically inclined, having most of their time to make up funny "bar-tunes" or ballads they've learned from a visiting Bard. They have their fair share of strange drinks and foods which not everyone would care for. Humans seem to see Hodges as an oddity, unknowingly displaying them at their Easter time, and singing old carols about them.

Marriage is really not that important until they reach their 50s in age, because half the time they spend dallying and not really wanting to be with a mate so quickly. Most males only see up to about three different mates, then choose one, and be with them for life. Many cannot decide and run amuck, and others simply do not feel up to the competition and forget about having a mate all together. Female hodges can birth up to five kits with each mate, and mate up to two times a year, sometimes with two different males, which makes the kits somewhat of a surprise in the range of fur color. But having that many kits, is useful, for it makes for extra help in harvest season, and farm work, and to pass on the family name as well, which is done by the males. Hodges live to be about 90yrs old.

What's In?

Simplistic and comfortable, Hodges aren't out to make a fashion statement, unless there's a Hodge of opposite gender to impress, like at a party. They often throw celebrations and wear ribbons and things they bartered from Bards, hoping to have the night of their life with the Hodge of their dreams. For regular wear, a cotten shirt and trousers of sorts, for males, do well. The legs of the pants are rather boxy, making their legs look somewhat "fat" compared to humans slim legs. Females wear a dress, a bodice of a strong vegitable color, meaning tomato red, pepper green or lemon yellow, and a peach, mirangue or eggshell muslin underdress. The same color scheme goes for males, who sport the "Huck Finn" look.
